Brutus Speaks

We must all stand up against the spirit of Caesar but we must be sacrificers, not butchers. Oh how I wish there was some way we could stop the apparent dictatorship of Caesar without dismembering him! However I know that to do what must be done for Rome I must partake in this bloody deed. If only he would listen. If only he would stop. It is unfortunate but I know in my head what I am doing is right, despite what my heart says. Senators remember our purpose and stay the course.

Cassius' Cranium

"Ye gods, it doth amaze me. A man of such a feeble temper should so get the start of the majestic world and bear the palm alone."(Act 1, sc. 2, 127-130) While I do love and care for Caesar as much as the next man, Rome is bigger than you or I or this one man. "Why man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a colossus, and we petty men walk under his huge legs and peep about to find ourselves dishonorable graves."

Brothers and sisters! Take a look at yourselves. Take a look around! Rome suffers because of one man. Rome is bigger than one man and needs to be treated as such. Do not be blinded by friendship for Caesar, Search your heart and open your eyes to the truth. Shall we do nothing but stand around and watch as he tears this land apart?

We cannot and will not tolerate this man who makes himself a god. As Caesar believes himself to be beyond the reach of any other human being; he can hardly still be called a man of the people. He has grown fat with wealth and sick with power. For too long I have watched this and done nothing.

Now who is with me? Who will stand and fight for Rome? For freedom?
